JOE BIDEN - GREAT AMERICAN
Joseph R. Biden, Jr. was born on November 20th, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Delaware and Syracuse University College of Law, graduating in 1968. He married Neilia Hunter in 1966. After being elected to the US Senate from Delaware in 1972, his family was in a devastating car accident in which his wife and baby girl were killed. He was sworn in as Senator at his injured sons’ bedside. In 1977 he married Jill Tracy Jacobs. The two have one daughter together. He is a Roman Catholic.
Biden is Delaware’s longest ever serving Senator. He currently serves as Chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In addition to holding that post previously, he has also served as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Reportedly he commutes over an hour each day to Washington from his home near Wilmington. In addition to his duties in the US Senate, Biden serves as an adjunct professor at the Law School at Widener University.
Biden was coauthor of the Biden-Gelb Plan for Iraq which offered a detailed analysis for American withdrawal from Iraq. The plan called for giving the main ethic and regional groups in Iraq autonomy and guarantees of future oil revenues. The plan also called for a major US diplomatic offensive in the Mid-East. As Senator from Delaware Biden was also closely involved in crafting the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, and aggressively supported legislation which aided the war on drugs.
Biden continues to prove himself a leader in the US Senate whose courage, hard work, and intelligence make him a viable and important candidate for the US Presidency.
