CHRISTOPHER DODD- AMERICAN FOR PRESIDENT
Christopher John Dodd was born on May 27, 1944 in Willimantic, Connecticut to parents of Irish descent. He graduated from Providence College in 1966 with a degree in English Literature. He went to the Dominican Republic as a volunteer with the Peace Corps. He also served with the US Army Reserve until 1975. Dodd went on to further his education by earning a law degree at the University of Louisville. He married Susan Mooney in 1970, but divorced in 1982. In 1999 he married Jackie Marie Humpa despite their religious differences- he’s a Roman Catholic and she’s a Mormon. They have two daughters.
Dodd served in the US House of Representatives from 1975 to 1981. While there he served on the committee that investigated the Kennedy and King assassinations. Dodd was first elected to the Senate in 1980, and became the first Senator to serve five terms from Connecticut.
Though Dodd voted for the Iraq war in 2002, he soon became a critic and in 2007 voted against further funding for the war. He voted for NAFTA, has criticized the US trade embargo against Cuba, and believes that more open immigration policies are necessary. He met with Hugo Chávez of Venezuela in early 2005 in an attempt to create better relations between our two countries. Dodd is a supporter of the ACLU and pro-gun control.
Dodd has served our nation faithfully and diligently. His politics and worldview may be just what this nation needs to get it back on track.
